1,000 Paintings of Love 2021-present
Working across media, Prince employs an amorphous “grid” as a generative structure—one that emphasizes the significance of the individual within community, and the necessity of community for the individual. Developed in collaboration with the artist’s son, this framework extends Prince’s ongoing investigation into relationship-building through art. The project is an in-process series of 1,000 multidisciplinary works that consider individual uniqueness and collective value. Spanning works on paper, hand-cut vinyl stickers, and performance, the series unfolds across varying scales and forms, inviting viewers to reflect on how personal agency and communal systems are deeply intertwined.
Love Paintings
These small gouache and ink works on paper sometimes include graphite or metallic paint pen. Priced at $100 each, they reflect Prince’s belief that everyone should be able to enjoy and own art. This first work in the 1000 Paintings of Love series includes a one-of-a-kind art book with 24 of the initial 100 Love Paintings, showcasing a vibrant variety of colors and forms.
