ABOUT
Megan Prince is a Seattle-based interdisciplinary artist whose work explores interdependence, labor, material reuse, and collective care. Raised in Eastern Washington by an architect and a contractor, Prince grew up surrounded by construction sites, blueprints, and museum art—an early fusion of structure and creativity. Equally formative were her grandmothers, who survived the Great Depression through grit and resourcefulness, instilling in Prince a lifelong impulse to reclaim the discarded and find beauty in what remains.
Prince earned a BFA in Painting and Interdisciplinary Visual Art with a minor in Dance from the University of Washington, followed by an MFA from Brooklyn College, CUNY. While in New York, a pivotal visit to Materials for the Arts cemented her commitment to reuse as both material strategy and ethics. Mentored by Vito Acconci, she created her first performance works, fusing salvaged materials with durational, participatory gestures. She later taught as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College while holding an EFA Studio Fellowship.
Working across sculpture, installation, performance, and painting, Prince’s practice centers on reuse as a means of examining relationships between people, materials, and systems of care. Her work has been exhibited nationally, with recent presentations at Method Gallery, Kirkland Arts Center, Museum of Museums, the Coliseum Theater, and a solo exhibition during the 2024 Seattle Art Fair, as well as at Pier 69 and SEA, Port of Seattle.
Prince has received a 4Culture Open Grant, the People’s Choice Award from Interdependence at Kirkland Arts Center, and was a 2025 iolair Artist-in-Residence. She is on the public art rosters for the City of Seattle and Washington State. Her work is held primarily in private collections. Prince lives with her husband, three children, and pup in West Seattle.
