Eight Years and 12 Days
A performance dedicated to my husband, Theo, in honor of our anniversary.
Nothing can remain the same as it was now.
We make choices, even when we don’t want to make them.
Time passes, things change; everything moves and stretches with the pull of life.
The bonds that are formed between two people's spirits and hearts in a relationship are jointly woven. In this performance, Theo and I weave a Relationship that will envelop us, demonstrating the stages our relationship has gone through and the continual need for communication with each other to make our relationship work in life.
Eight Years and 12 Days is a one-night performance by Prince, joined by her husband, Theo Prince, presented in 2008. Over the course of three hours, the artists draw separate lengths of white fabric from off-screen and collaboratively construct an abstract, nest-like form. As the performance unfolds, the structure gradually envelops them, culminating in their full encasement within the work they have made together.
Performed by Megan and Theo Prince. Videography by Christy Hayner.
This video is condensed from a three-hour performance that unfolded over time, documenting shared labor and sustained presence on April 20, 2008, at Rififi, New York City.
