Push On
Created in 2024 for Two Things Are True, a multi-phase creative project documenting Sarah Hanssen’s healing journey and culminating in a feature documentary film.
The work begins with two drawings by Hanssen’s father—materials carrying complex emotional and familial histories. Prince reoriented the works on paper into a diptych, then layered with transparent and opaque gouache, and finally cut into continuous ¼-inch strips.
Maintaining the integrity of a single continuous thread, the material was reassembled into a sculptural form through a process of deconstruction and repair.
The work holds multiple emotional states at once—grief, anger, tenderness, and transformation—allowing them to accumulate rather than resolve. It does not attempt to fix the past, but to reshape it into a new material condition.
