Remnant Relationships 2006 - present
Remnant Relationships are hand-worked soft sculptures made from leftover fibers collected from Prince’s community. Using materials such as cotton, plastic, vintage lace, and suede, the artist paints, tears, cuts, and hand-ties each remnant, often reworking pieces multiple times before completion.
These works transform discarded materials into objects of new value, reflecting accessibility, inclusion, and environmental stewardship. Their forms evoke the back-and-forth of human relationships, while titles reference material, color, or current events—such as Waiting for Another to Make the Words, responding to the Uvalde shootings. Through this process, Prince gives cast-off materials renewed life, meaning, and hope.
